We spent a lovely afternoon at Hopefield Animal Sanctuary in Brentwood, Essex with the grandkids and was surprised at the number of animals they have rescued that have been abandoned, neglected or abused. Its good to know that these animals have been rescued/re-homed and are now being well cared for. Each animal has its own story, and you can read about them at the end of the enclosures. It is very sad.

Hopefield is a small non-profit charity caring for around 400 sick, unwanted and mistreated animals. They rely upon donations and support from volunteers to be able to continue this work, and I must say they do an excellent job keeping the animal enclosures clean. They seem to be continually mucking them out, and we noticed a few times the volunteers cuddling the animals.

We saw a variety of animals including horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, geese, ducks, cats and more. Recently it has become home to smaller animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas. These animals, thanks to Hopefiled now get to live out their days in this fantastic sanctuary.

There is a young children’s play area with a few slides and climbing frames some picnic tables as well as a tea room serving simple food at a reasonable price. Also, there is a small gift shop.

Hopefield is a fantastic Rescue Centre that started with horses and has evolved to take in all sorts of species including parrots, racoon dogs, monkeys and reindeer.

The staff who are all volunteers are friendly and doing a great job.

There is a mixture of concrete paths and grass.

They do trails for the kids and themed activities.
