Adaptations
Helping you to adapt your home; from installing a ramp or a level access shower to building an extension to enable full wheelchair accessibility and aid independent living. Our service ranges from preliminary consultation through to design, project management and completion using our vetted contractors. Our experienced technical staff identify solutions to complex access problems in your home. We can also advise on options to finance the work including, where eligible, local authority grants.
Repairs, maintenance and improvements
Assisting to help you to keep your home in a good state of repair. We support you to complete the work and enable you to continue living in safety and security. We can assist with finding a reputable builder, full architectural service, obtaining quotations, and planning and supervising works on site. You can choose how much support you require from us and we will tailor our service to your needs.
Decent Home Loans
Assistance for homeowners and private tenants for essential repairs such as heating, windows, roof structure and electrical work. We manage the whole process, including completing application forms, obtaining quotations from our vetted contractors and overseeing all the works through to completion.
Home safety assessments
We can provide a free home safety survey to identify possible hazards and provide advice on the prevention of accidents.
Handyperson service
We will carry out a variety of small jobs and repairs in your home, such as fixing leaking taps, putting up curtain poles, fitting handrails or security measures. A charge is agreed before any work is carried out. This is a subsidised service which keeps the costs affordable. It is available across Harlow to people with a disability, older people and those on a low income. If we are unable to help or a job is too large then, for owner occupiers and private tenants, we can put you in touch with our vetted contractors.
Accessing Funding and Benefits
If you are an owner occupier or private tenant and you are unable to afford the cost of the works we may be able to support you to make an insurance claim or access charitable funding or grant/loans from the government or local authority.
Obtaining funding from charitable sources involves Home Solutions working with you to approach various organisations and benevolent funds. We will assist you to identify which organisations may help and will support you to prepare and complete the relevant application forms.
Assisting you to claim additional benefits is another way to increase your income and help finance the work.
Advice and information
We can assist you by providing guidance and support on disability and housing-related issues – this could be details of other organisations that can offer support, for example, Citizens Advice Bureau or local support groups.
