I have been informed by good friend Colleen Morrison, that due to the bravery of public spirited people in Bush Fair, alongside the bravery of a guard, a major robbery attempt was foiled from a security van.

I often go to the big cafe in Bush Fair for its excellent coffee and have seen this van park by the Post Office a number of times. It is a sitting target for hardened criminals.

Colleen tells the story thus:

"Robbers snatched a case containing money from a security guard who had just taken the case from the safe of a security van parked outside Bush Fair Post Office. This is one of a number of such robberies here. As the men made off for their getaway car, a brave female driver pulled in front of the car, blocking the robbers' exit. Three robbers ran off on foot with the case, leaving a fourth robber in the car. One of Bush Fair's former traders stopped the robber in the car from following the gang and 'detained' the man.

As the other three robbers took off, the security guard chased them, managing to catch up with them and to prise the case away form one of them, eventually returning it to the safe in security van. The police have said that the four robbers are the same gang who carried out a robbery in Staple Tye in recent days".

We are often told that people walk on by in the face of mishaps. Well, this is far from the case in Bush Fair. Courage and virtue defeated cowardice and greed. It just shows what can be done when there is a strong community, united by strong values. It is one of the best things about Harlow.
