Spotlight on Ann Kidd who runs the Harlow branch of Mums Business Club

I set up my business, AK Accounting Services last year in order to be able to work flexibly around my children who are 2 and 4.  I was also aware that in recent years the amount of mums starting their own businesses has grown massively and therefore my aim was to offer an accountancy service which is attractive to mums in business i.e. flexible, approachable and understanding of the challenges we all face.   While trying to source ways to reach this market I came across Mumsclub.co.uk which is a successful website aimed at mums in business.  As luck would have it just as I was looking to find ways to meet other mums in business they were just launching a new enterprise, Mumsbusinessclub.co.uk which aims to set up groups around the country where mums in business can network with each other and bring the kids along too.  Obviously I jumped at the chance to start a group in my area.

As a mum in business I am only too aware of the challenges faced when trying to juggle running a business with family life.  Networking is very important in my line of work but can sometimes be difficult to get to, breakfast meetings are tricky if you have to get kids to school by 9am, lunch-time can also be difficult if you have a child in nursery that finishes at noon.   Therefore I think networking with children is a great idea, it might be chaos but at least we will all be in the same boat. 

 The groups are set to run during pre-school hours, 9.30 – 11.30 am and are low cost, only £4 and there are no costly joining fees.  I also plan to provide an inspirational speaker at each meeting.

 I have had a very positive response so far from other business mums in the area so hopefully there will be a good turnout at the first meeting which is set for 24th June at the Meadows Children’s Centre in Harlow.   

Subsequent meetings will be on the 4th Thursday of each month.
