Holiday Protection Warning

The UK reciprocal health agreement with the Channel Islands (including Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney, Sark and Herm) ended recently which means that if you are heading out to the channel islands for business or pleasure, you must now ensure that you have adequate Travel Insurance   The recommendation comes from the Department of Health as the healthcare arrangements for UK visitors to the Islands have changed.

From the 1st April 2009, anyone travelling to the Channel Islands will be required to pay for medical treatment.

The Department of Health confirmed that travellers to the Channel Islands are NOT covered by the European Insurance Card (Ehic), which entitles residents of EU member states to free and cut-price health care in other EU countries.

Conversely, visitors from the Channel Islands to the UK will also now be liable for charges for medical treatment when visiting the UK, so they should also have adequate travel insurance cover.

I have recently purchased a worldwide annual policy with Flexicover including some pre-existing medical conditions for only £76 which was the cheapest I could find with good cover.
