I visited the Skylight Brasserie at Harlow College last week and was very pleasantly surprised at the high quality of food and service.  The restaurant is a ‘real life’ working environment for the trainee students.

 

It was my second visit back, my first being at a Harlow Chamber Breakfast Meeting when we enjoyed a very tasty full English breakfast.  I was impressed with it then and at their ability to cope with so many people in one go.

 

This time I visited for lunch with a friend, whom was quite surprised as we walked in, not expecting such nice surroundings.  The restaurant is smart, modern and compares favourably with other such restaurants.

 

The music in the background created a really nice relaxing mood.  The students who are being trained as silver service waiters and waitresses were very helpful, friendly and attentive.  Nothing was too much trouble.

 

The food on the menu was impressive.  Although not a big menu there was probably a choice of about 3 items for starters and 3 for main course with 2-3 for dessert.  This included a vegetarian option which is always available.  The options on the menu change daily.  See sample menu below.

The presentation of the food was excellent and the taste was delicious. It was hard to believe that they were only trainee chef's.

 

The Skylight Brasserie is open for lunch at 12 noon – last orders 1.30pm term time only.  They are not open in the evening except when there is a themed evening.

 

Themed Evenings

 

There are themed evenings held in the restaurant from 6.30pm on Thursdays throughout the year.  These evenings offer you the chance to sample different styles of cuisine whilst enjoying a fun social event.  Recent themes have been Murder Mystery, Twilight, Think Pink, Heaven & Hell, Wild West, Chocolate,  and evenings coming up are  Mama Mia touch of Greece,  Middle eastern, Caribbean and Mid Summer Night.  Prices start from £12 for three courses.

 

It’s the perfect place for a business lunch/meeting, ladies who lunch, small daytime clubs etc.
