Gibberd Garden

 

Open: Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and bank holidays from 2-6pm, April to September. Admission £4, concession £2.50, accompanied children under 6 free, 6 to 16 £1.  Groups welcomed by special arrangement.

 

The garden was designed by Sir Fredrick Gibberd, Master Planner of Harlow.  There are more than 80 sculptures incorporated into the design and it is recognized as one of the most important gardens of the 20th century.  Facilities include tea rooms, serving handmade cakes and light refreshments, shop, free car park, toilets (Inc. disabled). Certain parts of the garden are accessible to wheelchairs.

Harlow Decorative and Fine Art Society

 

Meets:  The 2nd Thursday of every month except July and August at St Johns ARC, Old Harlow at 7.30 for 8pm.  A visitors fee is payable by non-members. 

The society offers membership to 10 high quality lecture meetings on subjects relating to the Fine Arts.  It also arranges day visits, short holidays and study days.  NADFAS offers opportunity for members to undertake voluntary work for Heritage Volunteers, Church Recording and Young Arts.

Harlow Flower Club

 

Meets:  Usually on the 2nd Thursday of the month (not January) at the New Life Christian Fellowship Church, Purford Green, Harlow at 7.15pm for 7.30pm.

Activities:  Five flower arrangement demonstrations a year, two workshop evenings and two evenings of talks.  Visits are arranged.  A charity evening is arranged and a special demonstration at the Playhouse every other year.  Members assist at local church flower festivals.

Harlow Photographic Society

 

Meets:  Thursday at 7.45pm at Sewell Harris Room, Moot House, The Stow, Harlow

Activities:  Thriving local club welcomes newcomers of all abilities, interests cover digital and print work, black and white, colour and slides.  All ages welcome.  Advice freely given.

Harlow Seniors Photographic Group

 

Meets:  Tuesdays at 2pm at the Friends Meeting House, Church Leys, Harlow, Essex CM18 6BY.

Activities:  The majority of members are retired amateur photographers but anyone is welcome.  The club offers a wide range of photographic interests from black & white to the latest in digital photography.  The club arranges rambles and outings to places of photographic interest.

Parndon Mill Studios & Gallery

Parndon Mill is a centre for creativity in the visual arts.  The Old Mill and outbuildings have been converted into studios, workshops and design offices.  Many of the artists participate in Open Studios in July.  The Gallery exhibits the work of artists and craftsmen, who live in the vicinity and at all times there is a varied stock of pictures and crafts for sale.  Tuition is offered in the making of artworks in glass, wood, sculpture and painting.  Cruises up the River Stort are available on a luxury launch with excellent catering.  Art workshops can also be provided on board.

Serendipity Art Group

 

Meets: on Thursday mornings at 10am at St. Johns ARC

Activities:  A painting group tutored by Alan Burgess in which members are encouraged to develop their own vision using a variety of media.  An exhibition of member’s work is held at St. Johns every year.  In January 2008 the group also held a very successful exhibition entitled ‘Celebrating Harlow’s Trees’ using the community screens at the Gibberd gallery.

Harlow Water is planned for 2009.
