Harlow U3A - University of The 3rd Age

U3A  or University of the Third Age  is a national charity involving more than 200,000 people throughout the country (as well as those around the world).  Harlow has 380 members as of January 2009.  Like minded people, usually meet during the day, to share their knowledge, skills and experience in an informal way, often meeting in peoples' homes.  It's open to older men and women who no longer work full time.  Most U3As have a language group, a walking group, something creative, book groups, travel groups, indeed anything, whether it be social, cultural or creative that members would like to develop.

Members generally meet on the 4th Monday of the month (unless there is a bank holiday – check for details). At 10.30am for coffee, socialising and to sign up with our facilitators for the group that interests them.  From 11.00am members can listen to our invited speaker.

Additionally, our 34 activity groups (with more starting over the next couple of months meet weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on the activity, during the daytime.  Activities range from outings, theatre trips, art appreciation, history, gardening, walking, poetry appreciation, enjoying opera, French, German and Spanish, crafts, life/creative writing, mah jong, snooker and more.  Some of the groups have now grown too large to hold in member's homes so have moved to the WI hall in Old Harlow.
