We had a really great day out at Maldon's Promenade Park.............

Promenade Park Maldon

A great FREE day out with the kids

We visited Maldon’s  Promenade Park yesterday with the kids and we were really impressed.  We had visited a few years ago and thought it was nice but it has undergone a makeover recently with the salt water swimming pool being drained and replaced with an ornamental pool and fountains.

The new play area has a fantastic water splash park where the kids had so much fun.  There are brightly coloured pipes with water squirting out of them  (see the photo below).  The Splash Park is open from 11am – 5pm every day during the school summer holidays and at weekends from the beginning of May until the middle of September.  (Opening times are subject to weather conditions).

During the busy periods children are issued with coloured wrist/ankle bands and sessions in the pool are limited to about 30 minutes.  This ensures that it doesn’t get too crowded and everyone has a chance to enjoy the fun.  You do need to queue to get in and it depends how far into the session as to how long you have to wait.

For further information check out the Splash Park leaflet from Maldon Council here

Next to the splash pool area is a galleon which is surrounded by sand so as well as climbing about on the galleon they can play with their buckets and spades in the sand. Further along is a model boating lake.

There are plenty of places to get food from the kiosks in the park and lots of shady areas to have a picnic.

In the summer holidays there is a huge inflatable play area on the green which has an assault course, giant slides, bouncy castle, greasy pole and much more.  This unfortunately is NOT free.  The costs are:  children over 3 years £6 a session, Under 2’s £4 a session and 50p for one go.  Take a look at their website:  http://www.go-bonkers.co.uk/

Although I said the Promenade Park is free you do have to pay for the car park which is £2 for up to 2 hours £4 for up to 4 hours and £5 for the whole day.

It took about 45 mins – 1 hour to get there but we will definitely be going back with the kids soon.
