Essex Police is nearly halfway through its educational roadshow 2SMART which has been expanded to deal with drugs, alcohol, bullying and knives.
Year seven students from schools in Maldon, Chelmsford and Harlow have been the latest to see the roadshow as it travels around the county.
On Tuesday (May 6) youngsters from The Plume School, St Peters High School, Chelmsford New Model Special School, The Anglo European School, The Sandon School, St Peters College attended the Civic Theatre in Chelmsford.
On Thursday (May 8) St Nicholas School, Harlow Pupil Referral Unit, Passmores School, Mountfitchet Maths and Computing College, Harlow Youth Offending Team, St Marks West Essex Catholic School and Burnt Mill High School all visited The Playhouse in Harlow.
Each show is 90 minutes of lively, engaging and interactive education combining an interesting mix of music, dance, sport, comedy and theatre to educate 11 and 12 year old children around Essex. More than 14,000 year seven school pupils will have attended by the last show in July.
“We have changed the focus this year to make it more relevant and up-to-date to children and young people in Essex. We want the roadshows to be more varied and deal with wider issues and issues that are often in the news,” said Kevin Whipps, head of the children and young people’s policing team at Essex Police.
“Prevention at the earliest stage possible is the key. This is why 2SMART is such a fantastic way of getting our message across as it engages with 90 per cent of year seven children in the county.”
The next roadshow will be held in Clements Hall in Hawkwell on Monday (May 12).
