Second Harlow QuadKids event builds on success.

Second Harlow QuadKids event builds on success.

Another chilly and breezy evening at Harlow's Mark Hall track on Tuesday 20th September didn't prevent an enjoyable second QuadKids competition organised by Harlow AC with help from the Essex Athletics Network as almost 60 youngsters battled it out to post new marks and improve on their previous scores.

Tony Benton, the Essex Network Activator applauded the efforts of the local club, saying "Harlow are one of the leading lights in making QuadKids a success in our area, and this second event built on the success of the first meeting in July and the organising team had worked hard to make things run smoothly. It was a pleasure to see that despite the conditions over two-thirds of those who competed in both events improved on their points score, some by leaps and bounds".

Alecx Steele, Harlow AC's Chairman, who was one of the organising team said " 'It was great to see so many young people taking part, helping many new athletes find out what it is like to compete, which was exciting and fun, improving fitness and skill levels for all competitors. All the volunteer coaches and parents that helped were excellent, and a big, big thank you goes out to the club officials, plus Tony Benton from the Essex Athletics Network and staff from Leisure Services Harlow Council who all helped to make the event a great success'.

The clear-cut winner of the event was Will Galvin who improved on his second place performance in July to win with a gold standard 277 points. The girls' competition was a close fought affair as Millie Smith, third last time, came from behind to beat Marie Agyare by a single point with a new best score of 220 points – matching the Gold Award.

Coach John Stow concluded: "Well done to all again for an excellent evening and the enthusiasm shown by all the younger athletes was excellent to see, as was the support shown by parents and coaches. Harlow AC has taken a massive step forward this year with organising two QuadKids competitions in one year. My thanks to Tony and Helen: you have been fantastic. My hats off to all and it was fantastic to see club stalwarts such as Ted Cole, Bob Edwards and Ken Day, who have given many years of great service to the club, helping to make a success of this new competition."
