Epping Ongar Railway volunteering hobby

With the nicer weather already here, Epping Ongar Railway has a wide range of volunteering opportunities that are available at their friendly local heritage railway.

No specialist skills are required and those who are mucking in and helping with any aspect of the railway’s restoration will be given the opportunity to be trained for an operational role, including porter, guard, signalman, fireman, or even a steam or diesel engine driver!

It’s an excellent opportunity to get active and make new friends.  There are opportunities to get active and make new friends.  There are opportunities in the station restoration engineering , electrical, coach restoration, civil engineering, signals and passenger services as well as managing the vegetation along the line or working on the track itself.  Indeed, one of their volunteers has produced an excellent period-themed poster which is displayed at stations to encourage more people to consider getting involved with the exciting restoration works.

The more people volunteering, the sooner the line will be ready for re-opening as they work on a wide range of projects all aimed towards returning steam and diesel to the 6.5 mile branch.  You can see some example of the volunteer group’s activities on their ‘Department Diary’ or find out more about volunteering here... http://www.eorailway.co.uk/
