THE days that some residents have a weekly nappy or incontinence waste collection will change from 14 March 2011.
Some collection days are changing as part of rescheduling the crew's routes across the town. Next week letters will go out to 197 households who will be changing days. No other waste and recycling collections are affected.
Nappies and incontinence wastes can be put in with non-recycling waste collected fortnightly, but the Council's offers a separate weekly collection for those families whoneed it. The Council's contractor Veolia carries out over 300 weekly separate nappy and incontinence waste collections in the town. Harlow is one of only a few areas in the Country to offer separate weekly nappy and incontinence waste collections.
Councillor Tony Hall, Chairman of the Council's Environment Policy Working Group, explains: "The changes are due to rescheduling crew routes so they work in one area of the town each day rather than travelling across the town to different areas. This is better for the environment. The changes will not affect the weekly service residents receive it merely means for some their collection day will change. We will be providing an extra sack for residents to use if the new collection day is later than their usual day."
Due to demand there is currently a waiting list for these collections. Please phone Contact Harlow on (01279) 446655 for more information. Households can also sign up to a reusable nappy scheme. For more information visit www.essex.gov.uk
